Just checkin in...

I have kept up with my reading so far, but haven't posted in a while.  I hope that you guys will feel free to post too.  The story of Joseph's brother's selling him has always been one of those stories that I remembered well.   But in reading some of the commentary associated with today's reading, I had to ask myself if I would have been so forgiving of those who had wronged me.

I am afraid that I would have been consumed with my misfortune and bitterness towards those who had wronged me. I am a pretty open person and try to help people when I can, but I also tend to get my feelings hurt very easily.  :(  If someone does hurt me, I am not the type of person who would ever seek out revenge or wish someone ill, but I don't easily open myself up to that person again.  I can forgive, but I tend to want to just move on and not "go back" there.

God appears to Abraham...

I'm sorry this is late today, but I was out and about for most of the day.

Well, in reading today's readings, I noticed a few things....

In Genesis 18:1 it says,  The Lord appeared to Abraham.....
In Genesis 18:2 it says, He looked up and noticed three men....


I think God was one of the men, but it doesn't really say.  In verse 17, it sounds like God is asking the opinion of whether or not to tell Abraham his plans for him, with the two other men.  Should I hide my plans from Abraham?  I find this interesting.
In chapter 19 it says, The two angels came to the entrance of the city.....
So NOW I am assuming that the two men to whom God was talking with earlier were these angels.  Cool!  :)
But then in verse 8 Lot tells the men of Sodom who have surrounded the house that he has two virgin daughters that they can have to do with what they want.  NOT cool!  Did Lot know that these two were angels?  Surely angels could take care of themselves and Lot would not have felt the need to satisfy the angry mob with his daughters to protect the angels.  IF he did NOT know they were angels, it seems even more unlikely that he would sacrifice his daughters to protect two random strangers.  :(

Had a long discussion with the girls tonight about the whole genealogy rundown in the book of Genesis.  Adam and Eve had sons and then their sons had sons, but wait......who did their sons marry?  Gasp!  Their sisters?  It doesn't really explain that, but one must assume the obvious here.  Over the years, I have read the theory that these stories from the Old Testament are just that....stories. Because modern science tells us that to have incestual (sp?) relations like this would cause serious birth defects.  But it also tells us in the book of Genesis that most of the characters were living well beyond 800 years.  So, in my humble opinion, I'm thinking that this is just one of those God things and through him all things were possible.  


I have always wondered why God had direct interaction with Adam and Eve and   many generations after that, but then nothing. Genesis 6:3 says:

Then the LORD said, "My Spirit will not contend with man forever, for he is mortal; his days will be a hundred and twenty years."

I am not sure if this is an answer to that question or not.  I would be interested in what you guys think.

Good morning all.  I am getting ready for work, but wanted to send you the link for the blog in case someone wanted to make a post.  I haven't had a chance to play with designs, but I did set the privacy settings.
